The furniture industry in China is a vast and diverse field with numerous China furniture cities dedicated to producing various types of furniture. There are many famous China furniture cities to meet diverse customer needs.

China furniture city

When I began discussing China's furniture industry back in 2017, I highlighted the top 5 furniture clusters in the country. However, given the significant changes over the years, especially with the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic and the evolving global landscape, it's essential to provide an update for those involved in importing furniture from China.

Previously, our coverage of the top furniture factory locations in China didn't delve into specifics for each furniture city. Considering the changes and developments in the industry, I find it necessary to create a new post focusing on the different furniture cities across China.

As reported by the China National Furniture Association (CNFA), there are approximately 50 China furniture clusters, each specializing in particular furniture categories. In this article, I aim to spotlight the major furniture cities in China particularly relevant for overseas buyers. For those interested in China's furniture cities catering to the domestic market, feel free to reach out or leave a message for further consultation.

To provide a clearer understanding, Simonsense has organized and summarized all these furniture industry clusters in China, highlighting the 20 key regions for international buyers. This information serves as a reference for those seeking competitive China furniture suppliers.

Guangdong Furniture

As one of the most important provinces in China, Guangdong is the hub for many industries. So does the furniture industry. Guangdong furniture is famous nationwide for its style, quality, and quantity. There are many international furniture cities in Guangdong with a global reputation.

Guangdong Furniture

Foshan Furniture: From Markets to Manufacturers

Foshan, a city located in the heart of Guangdong province, has risen to prominence as a global hub for furniture manufacturing and trading. With a rich history dating back to the 1980s, the city boasts a diverse landscape of furniture markets and manufacturers.

Shunde Furniture Market: A World of Choices

When you think of Foshan furniture, the Shunde Furniture Market immediately comes to mind. Established in the 1980s, it has become the largest furniture wholesale market globally. Stretching over 10 kilometers along Foshan Avenue, it offers an overwhelming variety of furniture products. Whether you're furnishing a residence, a hotel, an office, or more, Lecong town, where the main market is located in the Shunde furniture market has you covered. The market's sheer size and range of products make it a must-visit destination for worldwide furniture enthusiasts.

The Lecong Furniture Market comprises several prominent furniture malls, each with its unique offerings and ambiance. Among them, the Louvre International Furniture Exhibition Center is the most famous.

Foshan Furniture Manufacturers in Longjiang: Quality and Expertise

Beyond the bustling markets, Foshan's reputation for furniture excellence is also built upon its skilled furniture manufacturers in Longjiang, Jiujiang, Lecong, and the furniture material market in Longjiang town, Shunde district.

Foshan boasts over 5,000 furniture manufacturers specializing in various categories, from mattresses to sofas, office furniture, and hotel furnishings. The comprehensive industry chain in Foshan ensures quick responses to material needs and the highest level of craftsmanship.

When it comes to specific categories, Foshan shines in areas such as sofa manufacturing. With skilled artisans and access to top-quality materials, Foshan has emerged as a hub for crafting top-tier sofas.

More about Foshan Furniture Manufacturers: Foshan Furniture

The Foshan Advantage for Your Furniture Needs

For those considering importing furniture from China, Foshan stands as a prime destination. The city's diverse offerings, from marketplaces to manufacturing capabilities, make it a one-stop shop for furniture procurement. Whether you're looking for budget-friendly options or high-end luxury pieces, Foshan has it all. Its strategic location, with easy access to Guangzhou and Hong Kong, further solidifies its status as a global furniture hub.

Dongguan Furniture

Dongguan's furniture sector plays a pivotal role in Guangdong's thriving furniture industry. Known internationally as a world factory for manufacturing and processing, Dongguan boasts key sectors like electronics, furniture, hardware molds, textiles, and garments. Among Dongguan's distinctive industries, furniture manufacturing and exhibiting stand out as one of the four major pillars.

As a frontier of China's reform and opening-up policy, Dongguan has attracted enterprises from Japan, South Korea, Taiwan, Hong Kong, and other regions to establish furniture factories. These foreign investments have brought in exceptional talent, advanced management practices, cutting-edge production equipment, and a plethora of overseas orders, propelling Dongguan's furniture industry toward international markets.

In the 1990s, with the accelerated shift of international industries, a significant number of Hong Kong and Taiwan furniture enterprises settled in Houjie, establishing the "Taiwanese orders, Dongguan production, Hong Kong export" model. This evolution has solidified Dongguan's status as a crucial hub for exporting furniture in China.

Houjie: The Capital of China's Furniture Exhibition

Houjie is hailed as the city of furniture in China, with the furniture industry serving as its core and foundational sector. It stands out as one of the regions in the China domestic furniture industry with the most comprehensive supporting industrial chain. The 5-kilometer-long Houjie Furniture Avenue is the country's first road named after an industry. It's a convergence point for furniture, machinery, materials, and components, attracting global merchants daily for potential collaborations. Houjie houses nearly 600 furniture companies, employing over 100,000 individuals in the furniture sector. It has nurtured renowned brands like Derucci, Coomo, and Dickson.

In 1999, building on Dongguan's solid furniture industry foundation, the Dongguan Government initiated the International Famous Furniture (Dongguan) Fair(3F) in Houjie Town. This move positioned Houjie and Dongguan as crucial hubs for furniture exhibitions and trade in China.

Simonsense Comments: The International Famous Furniture (Dongguan) Fair is held annually in March and has completed over 50 sessions, currently held once a year. Focused on design as its guiding principle and market orientation, the exhibition aims to connect composite trade channels for furniture brand enterprises, facilitate market expansion, and create brand home exhibits with transactional value.

In our view, the 3F Furniture Fair places a stronger emphasis on the China domestic market. It gathers major furniture brands like Kuka, Coomo, Cheers, Zuoyou, Sleemon., etc. If time permits, spending a day there might be worthwhile. For further insights about the Furniture Fair in Houjie, please refer to: China Furniture Fair.

Daling Shan: China's Leading Town for Furniture Exports

Daling Shan Town in Dongguan is accredited by the China National Furniture Association as the "Leading Town for Furniture Exports in China." Most furniture enterprises in Daling Shan primarily focus on exports. In recent years, however, many of these companies have started paying more attention to the domestic Chinese market.

Simonsense Comments on Dongguan Furniture: Furniture enterprises in Dongguan typically began their journey by providing manufacturing services for international furniture brands. They usually adhere to standardized management practices and maintain good quality control, thus ensuring better quality furniture. In recent times, Many Dongguan furniture companies have downsized in scale while consistently moving towards the high-end market. Numerous custom high-end furniture companies have emerged. If you seek customized or top-tier quality furniture, exploring Dongguan might yield fruitful results.

Shenzhen Furniture: Innovation Hub of the Chinese Furniture Industry

Shenzhen stands as one of China's most developed cities and a frontier in the nation's reform and opening-up policies. Despite being a labor-intensive industry, the furniture sector has seen commendable growth in Shenzhen and earned a good reputation for Shenzhen furniture.

Shenzhen Furniture Manufacturers

The furniture industry represents a traditional stronghold in Shenzhen. Compared to other China furniture cities, Shenzhen furniture boasts a wealth of original designs, high standards, and superior quality. Notable players in this arena include Manwah Holdings, Zuoyou Furniture, and CBD Furniture, among other prominent furniture brands.

Currently, Shenzhen's furniture industry has established a well-rounded industrial chain and cluster. With over 600 furniture companies, these businesses are primarily situated in regions like Pingshan, Longgang, and Bao'an. These entities have gained domestic and international market recognition through their premium designs, manufacturing excellence, and service quality, setting benchmarks in China's furniture industry. With the urban development of Chinese cities, many Shenzhen furniture companies are gradually relocating to neighboring Dongguan and Huizhou. By maintaining an international perspective while reducing land and labor costs, they aim to enhance competitiveness.

Shenzhen Furniture Fair

Beyond furniture manufacturing, Shenzhen is a pivotal location for China's furniture exhibitions. Typically held in March annually, the timing in recent years might have been subject to change, so keeping an eye on updates is advisable. The Shenzhen furniture exhibition epitomizes original and innovative designs, reflecting the forefront trends in China's furniture industry.

Simonsense Comments: Shenzhen's furniture brands generally operate on a larger scale. As Chinese cities evolve, Shenzhen increasingly serves as a headquarters for many China furniture brands, with many furniture factories relocating to Dongguan and Huizhou, providing these enterprises with competitive advantages in production and manufacturing costs.

Xiaolan(Dongsheng): A Hub for China's Office Furniture

Xiaolan(Dongsheng) Office Furniture Industrial Zone stands among the earliest-formed regions for office furniture in China, establishing significant industry foundations domestically and abroad over more than three decades.

Presently, Xiaolan(Dongsheng) boasts over 300 office furniture brands, with combined headquarters, and exhibition centers spanning over 300,000 square meters. The industry harbors 65 renowned brands, seven of which hold the titles of "Guangdong Famous Trademark" and "Guangdong Famous Product."
Distinguished enterprises such as Jongtay, Huasheng Furniture Group, Fubang, Donggang, Fumeida, and others, both domestically and internationally recognized, have garnered acclaim for their superior credibility and excellent quality. Their innovative technology has earned a substantial market share in the global office furniture market.

In recent years, the concentrated development model of the office furniture industry in Zhongshan has contributed to a relatively mature office furniture supply chain. This has significantly supported the comprehensive development of both upstream and downstream industries. Zhongshan currently hosts nearly 400 office furniture enterprises, forming the most concentrated office furniture industry cluster in China.

Hebei Furniture: A Hub in the Bohai Sea Furniture Industry Cluster

Hebei is a significant province in the Bohai Sea furniture industry cluster, primarily consisting of two aspects: furniture manufacturing and furniture trade. Among these, Bazhou in Hebei is identified by the China National Furniture Association as the "China Distinctive Custom Furniture Industry Base," while Xianghe is a prominent furniture trade center, akin to Lecong, recognized by the association as the "Northern China Furniture Trading Hub."
Hebei Furniture

Bazhou Furniture: China Distinctive Custom Furniture Industry Cluster

Bazhou's furniture industry, centered in Bazhou City, Hebei province, is predominantly focused on metal and glass furniture, notably in the town of Shengfang. Shengfang hosts over 4,000 furniture manufacturers, generating an annual output value exceeding 50 billion RMB, establishing itself as China's base for metal and glass furniture.

In recent years, Bazhou has leveraged its resource and location advantages, enhancing industry support, expanding the industrial chain, and promoting furniture industry transformation and upgrade in eco-friendly practices, design optimization, and brand elevation, fostering an ecological matrix across the furniture industry chain.

Shengfang International Furniture Expo City

Shengfang International Furniture Expo City serves as the procurement headquarters for distinctive furniture in China, standing as the world's largest singular market primarily focused on unique furniture. The mall accommodates over 2,600 furniture enterprises, offering a diverse range of products, including metal and glass furniture, office furniture, outdoor and leisure furniture, school furniture, hotel furniture, solid wood furniture, glass furniture, smaller furniture pieces, furniture accessories, and raw materials, among others.

Xianghe: Northern China Furniture Trading Hub

Situated in the hinterland of the Bohai Sea economic zone, 45 kilometers from Beijing and 70 kilometers from Tianjin, Xianghe International Furniture City sits at a vital hub in the Beijing-Tianjin-Hebei urban cluster, boasting an extensive transportation network. Its products, besides being popular in over ten northern provinces, also enjoy export to Northeast Asia, Europe, Africa, and other regions. Presently, Xianghe Furniture City comprises 33 standalone exhibition halls, surpassing a total area of 3 million square meters, hosting over 7,500 participating enterprises, and 1,500 renowned brands, welcoming an annual footfall of 6.5 million visitors, with sales reaching 28 billion RMB in 2015.

Simonsense Comments: Considering past experiences, Bazhou furniture quality may lag behind that of Guangdong furniture, yet some companies offer high-quality products. Due to Hebei Province's advantage in the steel and glass industries, Bazhou's production of metal and glass furniture is substantial, offering comparatively lower prices.

Suzhou Furniture

Suzhou, one of Jiangsu Province's key cities located in the Yangtze River Delta region, heavily relies on manufacturing as its economic driver, with the furniture industry standing as a significant sector. The city hosts a multitude of furniture enterprises, encompassing various aspects like design, production, and sales, making it a vital hub within China's furniture industry.

Within Jiangsu Province are nearly ten thousand furniture companies, with thousands falling under large-scale enterprises and over a million individuals engaged in this sector. The total output value amounts to around 165 billion RMB, with furniture production exceeding 177 million pieces and exports nearing 5 billion USD, ranking among the top three nationwide. The province boasts nearly 300 furniture shopping malls covering over 10,000 square meters each, totaling around 15 million square meters.

Suzhou furniture

Li Kou: The Eastern China Furniture Trading Hub

Li Kou, situated in Suzhou, traces its roots in the furniture market back to the early 1970s. The market underwent significant development during the '90s, evolving from "Li Kou Furniture City" to "Jiangsu Li Kou International Furniture City," gaining substantial industry recognition for its comprehensive market scale and operational capabilities.

In 2009, with unanimous agreement from the China National Furniture Association and the Jiangsu Provincial Furniture Association, the "Eastern China Furniture Trading Hub" was jointly established in Li Kou International Furniture City.

Spanning over 1,000 acres, with a total construction area exceeding 1 million square meters and an operational area surpassing 800,000 square meters (comprising around 40 sizeable furniture trading halls), Li Kou employs over 50,000 individuals. The market houses numerous renowned national furniture brands, with over 5,000 operators running businesses. Operating as a wholesale and retail marketplace, it offers a comprehensive product range, boasting an annual sales turnover of nearly 15 billion RMB. Renowned nationwide for its market scale and operational capabilities, it holds the distinction of being Suzhou's designated "Furniture (Xiangcheng) Characteristic Industry Base" and "Key Service Gathering Zone." Recognized by the China National Furniture Association in 2009 as the "China Furniture Trading Hub," it was later acknowledged in 2015 as a national exemplary industrial cluster.

Li Kou's strategic location makes it an excellent choice for furniture procurement. However, Foshan remains the primary choice for overseas buyers. Although Jiangsu offers a diverse range of furniture types, traditional Chinese-style furniture predominates, with recent years witnessing considerable growth in New Chinese-style furniture.

Zhejiang Furniture

The China furniture industry has developed significantly, forming distinct industrial clusters. Apart from the renowned Guangdong furniture, Zhejiang is also a vital hub for furniture production. In terms of output, Zhejiang's furniture industry surpasses other regions nationwide and became the country's largest furniture production site in 2021. It hosts numerous leading enterprises like Kuka Home, Henglin, UE Chairs, Sleemon, and Zoy.
Zhejiang Furniture
Unlike Guangdong's dominance by small and medium-sized enterprises, Zhejiang's furniture companies tend to be larger in scale. According to the Zhejiang Provincial Economic and Information Technology Department and Provincial Bureau of Statistics, the number of Zhejiang's furniture companies increased continuously in recent years, reaching 1,070 large-scale furniture enterprises in 2021, accounting for 16.10% of the national total.
Furniture manufacturing enterprises in Zhejiang are mainly situated in Hangzhou, Anji, and Haining. Hangzhou stands as a renowned China office furniture industrial base, rivaling Dongsheng in Guangdong. Well-known brands like Guancheng and Sunon are based in Hangzhou. Besides office furniture, Hangzhou also hosts the headquarters of Kuka Home, one of China's top ten furniture brands.

Anji Furniture

Anji, previously recognized for various chair styles often seen at furniture exhibitions, particularly excels in producing office chairs. It's the largest office chair production base in China, with one-third of the domestic market share and half of the total exports. Over 1,700 green furniture enterprises, including 362 large-scale ones, are located in Anji. The industrial output value of Anji's chair industry reached 261.7 billion RMB, with an added value of 58.6 billion RMB in the last year.

Haining sofa

Haining, known as a significant sofa export base, hosts notable companies like Morri Sofa due to its advantageous location and convenient transportation linking Shanghai, Ningbo, Hangzhou, and the Pudong and Xiaoshan airports.

Yuhuan Furniture

Yuhuan is renowned as the production base for European classical furniture, commencing mechanized production in the '90s and rapidly becoming the largest furniture production base in East China. Nearly 300 furniture manufacturing enterprises were established, with 90% producing European classical furniture. The products' quality and craftsmanship have placed Yuhuan at the forefront, holding 30% of the national market share and earning the title "China's European Classical Furniture Production Base."

Nankang Furniture

Nankang, situated in the southern part of Jiangxi Province and the central part of Ganzhou City, is known as the capital of solid wood furniture in China. By 2021, Nankang housed over 7,000 furniture enterprises, employing more than 400,000 people, with nearly 1,000 large-scale enterprises. Its total furniture output reached 227 billion RMB, making it the largest and most distinctive industry cluster in Ganzhou and one of the world's largest furniture manufacturing bases.
Nankang Furniture
Over time, Nankang has developed comprehensive wood processing facilities, furniture production centers, and trade markets for furniture and related accessories like timber, hardware, leather, etc. Its well-planned layout has made it a vital hub for the furniture industry in the central region of China.

Nankang's furniture primarily focuses on solid wood, often employing materials like rubberwood and pine. Historically catering mainly to the domestic market, the region has progressively expanded its export market alongside its traditional domestic presence. Despite its affordability, the quality of Nankang's furniture tends to be relatively average compared to Guangdong furniture. Consequently, some Nankang entrepreneurs seek better facilities and higher quality by establishing factories in Foshan, Guangdong.

Shangdong Furniture

Shandong Province stands as a significant hub for the furniture industry within the Bohai Sea surrounding area, with four distinct regions dedicated to different types of furniture production: Zhoucun for upholstery furniture, Ningjin for solid wood furniture, Jiaoxi for export manufacturing, and Yangxin for classic Chinese furniture.

Shandong Furniture

Zhoucun Furniture

Zhoucun boasts over 4,000 furniture industry enterprises, engaging more than 50,000 employees and achieving an annual turnover of 20 billion RMB. Their products are distributed across all China provinces, with raw materials exported to over 30 countries. Recognized as China's "Soft Furniture Industry Base" by the China Furniture Association, Zhoucun's furniture industry began in the 1980s and has since evolved into a complete chain of industries covering "raw materials, production, exhibitions, and logistics."

Ningjin Solid Wood Furniture

Designated as China's solid wood furniture town by the China Furniture Association, Ningjin hosts over 3,000 furniture enterprises, generating a yearly output exceeding billions. Their furniture, specializing in solid wood, includes a broad range of residential and commercial categories like dining, hotel, suite, and office furniture. These products are exported to multiple provinces within China and over 30 countries worldwide.

Jiaoxi Furniture City

Positioned as the northern China furniture export base, Jiaoxi Town boasts around 170 furniture and supporting enterprises, including 26 large-scale production companies. Representative firms like Qingdao Yimu, Yijia, Runpeng, Xingyu, Luoke, and Hongyunxing contribute to this thriving hub, located near Qingdao City within the Qingdao half-hour economic zone.

Simonsense Comments on Shandong Furniture: Shandong Province is a major hub for the furniture industry and holds a leading position in terms of industry scale nationwide. Currently, Shandong Province has established an enterprise layout covering the entire furniture industry chain. According to data from Enterprise Check, as of April 2023, the number of furniture industry chain enterprises in normal operation in Shandong Province has surpassed 750,000.

These regions hold distinct characteristics: Zhoucun excels in soft furniture, Ningjin specializes in high-quality solid wood furniture, and Jiaoxi focuses on furniture for export markets. Each area emphasizes its unique materials, craftsmanship, and market orientation, catering to diverse buyer preferences and requirements.

Chengdu Furniture

Chengdu City is among China's top five furniture manufacturing bases and one of the four major furniture distribution centers nationwide. It stands as the largest hub for panel furniture production in the country. With nearly 3,000 furniture manufacturing and supporting enterprises, Chengdu employs close to 500,000 people, mainly concentrated in areas such as Xindu District, Chongzhou City, Pengzhou City, Shuangliu County, and Wenjiang District.

Here's a brief overview of two regions in Chengdu that could be valuable for international buyers:

Sichuan Furniture

Chongzhou: China's Hub for Panel Furniture

Chongzhou is a significant hub for China's panel furniture industry and houses major furniture enterprises like QuanU. Situated in the western inland of China, it has limited access to maritime transportation, with ports relatively distant. Chongzhou's furniture market primarily focuses on the domestic market and is positioned in the mid to low-end segment.

In recent years, Chengdu Furniture has actively expanded its export channels, witnessing a significant increase in export volume. Compared to Guangdong and Zhejiang coastal regions, Chengdu benefits from lower land and labor costs. If panel furniture is your primary product category, exploring Chengdu might be worthwhile. Below is an introduction to the China Western Furniture Trading Hub located in Wuhou, Chengdu.

Wuhou: The Furniture Trading Hub in Western China

Wuhou District hosts a cluster of over 20 specialized furniture markets, fostering a thriving furniture trade economy with significant recognition within China. Particularly, the stretch along the Sichuan-Tibet Road forms the "Ten Mile Furniture Street Market," encompassing over 750,000 square meters of market space, accommodating over 3,000 businesses and employing more than 50,000 individuals.

Conclusion

Understanding China's furniture industry clusters is a wise choice as these regions have unique characteristics that cater to various needs. Before selecting specific furniture suppliers, it's crucial to ensure a good understanding of their product quality, production capacity, and service levels.
